Life Insurance – The Town provides each employee with Basic Life and Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment in the amount equal to one and one-half times the annual salary.| View Policy| Visit https://www.usablelife.com/ 


Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – This program is available to all full-time Town employees and their dependants through a local professional occupational counseling service. It provides services to help resolve problems that may be affecting job performance, relationships, and financial concerns. Information is held in complete confidence. Tuition Assistance – Upon successful completion of college-level courses related to Town jobs, Town of Valdese may reimburse a portion of your tuition, book expenses, and fees.


Credit Union – North Carolina Local Government Employees’ Credit Union offers a variety of savings, loans and other financial services.


Deferred Compensation – 401K (www.nc401k.prudential.com).  This plan allows you to set aside a portion of your salary to supplement retirement income.  Maximum amounts are set by the IRS.


Retirement – Full-time employees participate in the North Carolina Local Government Employees’ Retirement Plan (www.nctreasurer.com). This plan provides career employees with a financially secure retirement. You contribute a percentage of your annual salary, and the Town contributes a percentage for you. After five years of creditable service, you will become eligible for retirement benefits. Benefits include a life insurance payment and a permanent disability provision.


Payroll Deductions – You may authorize payroll deductions for United Way and/or Aflac, which sells additional medical, dental, vision, life, short-term disability, accident, intensive care, and cancer policies.


Longevity Pay – After five years of continuous service, employees who work full-time may be compensated for years of continuous service by payment of a longevity supplement based on continuous years, payable on the employee’s anniversary date.


Sick Leave – Full-time employees shall earn one day of sick leave a month, with no maximum accrual.


Vacation Leave – Full-time employees earn from 10 to 20 days of vacation each year based on years of continuous service.


Valdese Recreation Department - The Town provides full-time employees with a free Aquatic & Fitness Membership for you and your immediate family.


Holidays – Paid holidays are observed each year:

  • New Year’s Day,
  • Martin Luther King’s Birthday,
  • Good Friday,
  • Memorial Day,
  • Independence Day,
  • Labor Day,
  • Veteran’s Day,
  • Thanksgiving Day & Friday,
  • and three days at Christmas (applicable to the Holiday Schedule for NC State each year)
