Public Notice:
ACTIVATION OF STAGE 1- VOLUNTARY CONSERVATION MEASURES
Date: April 20, 2026 Subject: Activation of Stage 1 – Voluntary Water Conservation Measures Based on current water supply conditions and in accordance with the Town of Valdese Water Shortage Response Plan, I am initiating Stage 1 – Voluntary Reductions effective immediately. Stage 1 is intended to proactively reduce water demand when conditions indicate the potential for a future shortage. Under this stage, all water users are encouraged to voluntarily reduce their water consumption by approximately 5% and adopt water conservation practices. Valdese water customers are requested to limit irrigation, reduce non-essential outdoor water use, and identify and repair leaks. Notifications will be distributed through our standard communication channels, including the Town website and social media. At this time, these measures are voluntary and no penalties will be enforced. However, early participation is critical to help stabilize demand and potentially avoid the need for more restrictive measures in later stages. Staff will continue to monitor conditions closely and will keep the Council and the public informed should escalation to a higher stage become necessary. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information.

HYDRANT MAINTENANCE
Each spring Valdese Fire Department performs annual maintenance on all 400+ fire hydrants in the town limits. This service ensures that each hydrant has an adequate water supply and will, in times of emergency, function correctly. It normally takes four to six weeks, weather pending, to complete the task. The fire department will announce when the service will start via social media and Code Red. During this testing you may experience some discoloration in your water. If so, turn on an outside water spigot or inside faucet and let it run for several minutes. This should take care of your problem.
