Valdese Lakeside Park
Valdese Lakeside Park is a 300 acre parcel of land that follows McGalliard Creek & Lake Rhodhiss and is located approximately 3.7 miles from Downtown. Where is there 300 acres of lakefront undeveloped land in Valdese? Follow the link below for directions.
Plans for developing the parcel are underway and the overall goal is to create an outdoor tourism attraction that will include; Welcome Area, Parking Area, Restrooms, Large Shelter, Picnic Tables, Outdoor Fitness, Paved Trails, Pump Track, Kayak Launch & Pier, Dog Park, and Playground.
McGalliard Falls Park
McGalliard Falls Park - Located Off of Church Street, the park is a popular gathering spot for families and friends looking for a place to have a picnic and enjoy some recreational activities. It is located at 1400 Falls Road, NW. The park has a volleyball court, a nature trail, picnic facilities and restrooms in addition to the natural attraction of the falls. The picnic shelter may be rented by contacting the Valdese Recreation Department at 879-2132. Each June, in the creek above the falls, the Town of Valdese holds a fishing tournament for area youth and seniors.
FEE SCHEDULE: $30 minimum for 2 hour rental for one side, $15 for each additional hour thereafter. $45 minimum for 2 hour rental for both sides, $22.50 each additional hour thereafter.
Fletcher Ball Park
Named for local politician Ray C. Fletcher, the Fletcher Ball Park is located just off of Meytre Road and is adjacent to McGalliard Falls Park. The ball park is used for recreation department league events including soccer and baseball.
The park consists of 2 ball fields, concession stand and also includes an observation deck overlooking McGalliard Falls Park.
Children's Park - Located just off Highway 70 on the east side of Valdese, Children's Park contains a picnic shelter with restroom facilities, a playground area, and a lighted sports field used for baseball, soccer, and softball. A creek meanders along the edges of the park, encouraging exploration by curious youngsters. The picnic facilities may be rented by contacting the Recreation Department at 879-2132.

Located on the grounds of the Valdese Community Center on Arnaud Avenue and behind the tennis courts, Rotary Park has a picnic shelter and outdoor grill. The picnic facilities may be rented by contacting the Recreation Department at 879-2132.

Valdese Family Splash Park
Splash through the summer heat at the Valdese Family Splash Park located adjacent to the Valdese Recreation Center. Amenities include splash pad, playground, picnic shelter, and multipurpose building. The picnic shelter & multipurpose building may be rented for public use.
FEE SCHEDULE: Picnic Shelter $30 for 2hr minimum - $15 per hour for each additional hour
Multipurpose Building: $50 for 2hr minimum - $25 per hour for each additional hour
Located at 312 Massel Avenue (GPS - 35.740221,-81.55977), the Valdese Recreation Department offers a wide range of facilities and activities to the citizens of Valdese and the surrounding area. The department sponsors a number of special classes and activities for youth and adults. The recreation department oversees five facilities: Valdese Community Center, McGalliard Falls Park, Children's Park, Fletcher Ballpark, and Tiger Gym.
The Department is based in the Valdese Community Center, which also houses bowling lanes, a dedicated party room, snack bar and grill, fitness center, locker rooms, gymnasium, and staff offices. WIFI is available throughout the facility. Also located on the grounds are two lighted tennis courts, and a year-round swimming pool (enclosed from mid-September through early May.)
Tiger Gym, behind the Old Rock School, is used for basketball and Futsal (Indoor Soccer). Also located at the gym complex is a lighted walking track and football field used by the Recreation Department teams.
The Valdese Community Center Gymnasium and the Tiger Gym facility are also available for rent on a limited basis for parties, youth activities, and sporting events. Please check with the Recreation Department for available times and view or download the reservation form by selecting the link below.
Recreation Department COVID-19 Phase 2.5 Plan
Public Playgrounds & Parks: The Valdese Recreation Department is preparing for the reopening of public playgrounds on Friday, September 4th by 5pm. The Valdese Family Splash Park will be operational Monday through Saturday 8am-8pm and Sunday 1pm-5pm, beginning Saturday, 9/5/20.
We will offer outdoor shelter rentals at McGalliard Falls Park and Children’s Park. The Splash Park Shelter can be used on a first come, first served basis. Only 25 people may use the shelters at one time and remain socially distanced. The indoor Splash Park building will not be available until we get back to more normal operating hours.
Memberships: All memberships were paused on March 17th to account for the facility closure. Memberships will resume on September 8, and no member will have time the facility was unavailable counted against their memberships. For patrons who do not feel comfortable returning to the fitness center or pool at this time, they may “pause” their membership by calling and speaking with Aquatics/Fitness Supervisor David Andersen at 828-874-6737 before 5pm on October 8, 2020. Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit, and Renew Active members do not need to take any action regarding their memberships at this time.
Fitness Center: As of Tuesday September 8, the Fitness Center will reopen at 30% occupancy from 5:30am until 10am, and will reopen from 4-8pm Monday through Friday, and from 7am-11am on Saturday mornings. Face masks are required for entry to and from the fitness room. However, they are not required during strenuous exercise. Each person visiting the Fitness Center will be provided a clean cloth and disinfectant upon check-in. Please maintain 6-foot social distancing practices while exercising, and please wear your face covering when moving between pieces of equipment. Patrons are asked to clean equipment before and after use with the provided disinfectant, and Recreation Department Staff has increased routine cleaning protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic. Reservations for workouts are appreciated and can be made by calling 874-6737. If no one answers, please leave a message with the time you wish to come work out and a contact number. Reservations are not confirmed until you have received confirmation from a Fitness Center employee.
Pool: The pool will continue operating for lap/fitness swimming only at this time. We will continue evening hours from 4pm-8pm Monday through Friday, as well as 7-11am on Saturday mornings. On Tuesday, September 8, the pool will begin opening in the mornings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7am-11am. Reservations for swimming can be made by calling 874-6737. If no one answers, please leave a message with the time you wish to come swim and a contact number. Reservations are not confirmed until you have received confirmation from a Fitness Center employee.
Fitness Classes: Silver Sneakers classes, TRX classes, and water aerobics classes will resume meeting on Monday, September 14. A finalized schedule of class times will be available on Wednesday, September 9, and patrons are required to sign up in advance for those classes. Patrons may begin signing up for classes on Thursday, September 10.
Bowling: Bowling will resume at 30% occupancy for leagues only, beginning Tuesday, September 8, 2020. League bowlers may contact Ken McNeely for details on how the leagues will be structured.
