November 6, 2021

Back by popular demand! Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver will join us at the Rock School on November 6, 2021 at 7:30pm.

Doyle: I have been hosting the Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver festival in Denton, NC for more than twenty-five years. A few years ago we started a golf tournament on Thursday, the week of the festival. I'd like to be able to say we were defending our title every year, but we aren't. (Just wishing) The gospel music that we record and perform on stage has always been important to me. Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver have made many more gospel recordings than secular ones. It is apparent to me that the folks who buy our music and come to our concerts feel, as I do, that there is no better message than the message of Jesus Christ. On the first Sunday of May, in 1985, I rededicated my life to our Lord Jesus. It is my fervent hope that my "musical mission" will lead others to Him.

Tickets $25 in advance & $30 at the door. Tickets available for purchase on August 1st, 2020.

December 4, 2021

Dale Ann Bradley is 5 time IBMA Female Vocalist of the year & brings her beautiful heartfelt vocals to us, along with her special talent of finding songs from other genres and changing them to fit our style of music. Playing mandolin for Sister Sadie is none other than the very talented and soulful Tina Adair. If you've never seen Deanie play live, you're in for such a treat. She commands the stage like no other. Deanie has performed with Bob Seger, The Chieftains, Vince Gill and Patty Loveless. On banjo, we have Gena Britt who comes from the great state of North Carolina has played with several critically acclaimed bluegrass bands over the years & is known for her solid & tasteful banjo playing. Put us all together and we're SISTER SADIE. January 8, 2022

The Rock School will welcome back Merle Monroe on January 8, 2022 at 7:30pm.

Combining the musical styles of the Father of Bluegrass with the Okie from Muskogee is an exciting proposition. Feeling that “Bluegrass and Traditional Country music is America’s music, the stories of the common man and the sounds of the mountains,” Tim Raybon and Daniel Grindstaff have formed the new band Merle Monroe.

Tim and Daniel first met in the mid 2000’s when Daniel was performing with Marty Raybon at IBMA Fan Fest. They had only a short time to rehearse before they performed their set, but Tim will always remember his first impression of Daniel: “He was the best banjo player I had ever heard and an adamant professional.” Daniel recalls that since first hearing Tim Raybon, “I have held his vocal abilities as being one of the best-kept secrets in the music business.” From the beginning they held a common bond in their love of the Osborne Brothers, Jim and Jesse, and Bill Monroe; they hit it off and have remained friends ever since. Stay tuned to Merle Monroe as their momentum continues to soar!

Tickets $20 in advance & $25 at the door. Tickets available for purchase now.

Concerts at the Rock presents Darin & Brooke Aldridge at the Old Rock School as part of the 2021-2022 season.

Husband and wife duo Darin & Brooke Aldridge draw on the traditions of their native North Carolina, the savvy of a young, gifted band and their own dedication to ingenuity to create the most adventurous album of their career with their latest critically acclaimed release, Inner Journey.

There’s a lot about the new generation of bluegrass that sure is inspiring. And Darin and Brooke are two of my favorites of this great new generation. I’m flattered that they included me in their new record and even better, to find out they are equally as great as people”. ~Vince Gill

“Brooke asserts herself as one of the more powerful female vocalists on the scene…” ~Relix Magazine

What a show this will be! The Malpass Brothers join Carolina Blue for a night you're sure not to forget! March 19, 2022 at 7:30pm will close out the season.

The Malpass Brothers: As young boys, Christopher and Taylor Malpass soaked up the music of their granddad’s phonograph records. Christopher earned his first talent show trophy at age 7, and Taylor was playing mandolin by the time he was 10. Today, they promote the work and music of classic country artists they treasure while creating new music and making their own mark in the lineage of a rich American cultural heritage.

Carolina Blue: The band was formed in 2007 after the release of the album Nothing So Blue by Bobby Powell and Tim Jones. Carolina Blue won the South Carolina state bluegrass championship at RenoFest in 2011. They also received their first Vocal Group of The Year Nomination at the 2018 SPBGMA Awards Show. They have appeared on the hit TV show “Song Of The Mountains” as well as “The Bluegrass Trail” series on RFDTV. The band's repertoire consists of original songs, many bluegrass favorites, and gospel, too, all done in the traditional style. Band members are Bobby Powell on guitar and vocals, Timmy Jones on mandolin and vocals, Reese Combs on upright bass and vocals, James McDowell on banjo and vocals, as well as American and Canadian Grand Master Fiddle Champion, Aynsley Porchak on fiddle, a recipient of the 2018 International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Instrumentalist Award.
